A serious Internet Explorer 8 exploit has been revealed without a patch yet, described in this article: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/972890.mspx. Anyone who use IE should follow the steps in the article, or better yet take it as one more reason that IE has been and will continue to be the worst choice in web browser.
There are many caveats and pitfalls with websites that people need to be aware of. Having been in IT for over eight years, here are a five main things to watch out for that I have found. Used Terms Domain: is the name for the site you type into the address bar, such as http://thewebsiteguy.com.au. [...]
I had an EXTREMELY annoying error today on my laptop. I have a number of partitions to seperate Windows, data etc so that I don’t have to backup any data to reinstall Windows (which I frequently do for many reasons) and to help reduce fragmentation etc. Picture: Vista’s disk manager. Note that Vista home means [...]
I installed OpenSuSE 11 today to replace Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. All up it only took about 2 hours to install and configure including Subversion, Samba, Web and MySQL. It feels to good to have it back. I’ll note the specs of this machine: Athlon 2800+ Asus A7n8x Deluxe 2gb RAM GeForce 7600GT 120Gb WD [...]
I got fed up with Windows Server 2008 for the last time yesterday, and I will start the migration back to OpenSuSE Linux on my home dev server. It’s up to version 11 now, so I will install that, even though it’s a pain to export subversion, files and databases. What tipped me over the [...]
I got a virus last night, first noticed by the stray process “orz.exe” running in my process list. To keep the story short I tracked it down to this security notice: Downloader.Swif.C which would be the only thing I have done to get a virus – a flash video. I saw a video link, and [...]

I no longer have Vista on my notebook (too many errors and it gave up the ghost trying to triple boot) so I put it on my part time server / part time game PC. While copying my SuSE 10.3 CD image from it to the notebook to burn it, I noticed the copy speed was pretty slow: So slow in fact, that I thought it may be faster to download it from the ‘Net again…. [...]
This is one of the best I have seen! Small pic again, click to enlarge. EDIT: For non-IT people, it is an error and the website is displaying the username and password to the database.
<rant value=”extreme” target=”anyoneWhoWillRead”> That’s the acronym for VISTA. It is a love / hate relationship with me really liking some features and loathing others. I installed Vista Ultimate w/SP1 that I got from the Microsoft Convention with Mark last weekend and it has been a week of, let’s call it fun. To install was quite scarey at first since it presents a large “Install now” button. I wasn’t [...]
